tain foods. Mrs. Sharp said she supposes increased funding might mean that the the income requirements might be changed to make more people eligible, but she has received no actual information on what it might mean.
Mrs. Sharp is very interested in the health care program the Clinton administration is expected to introduce this spring. She says in her job she sees many people with no health insurance who are not eligible for Medicaid. The Health Department deals primarily in disease prevention, she said. For those who are actually sick but have no insurance, the Health Department can only refer them to the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville. ~
She said eligibility for Medicaid has been expanded in the past few years and more pregnant women and young children are eligible. She said this has a created a “Catch 22 situation, where women come in and want services but have no insurance and not eligible for Medicaid, and the only way they can become eligible is to get pregnant.”
Phil Irwin, a founding director of the B&B Association of Virginia and owner of Caladonia Farm, said that the B&B business is becomming more and more recession proof. W$ are within an easy drive of millions of people, he said.
“Today we are seeing people who just want to enjoy the Bed and Breakfast experience,” he said. They are not using the B&B’s while touring; the establishments are an end unto themselves, he added.
“The people who are doing this are not likely to stop regardless of what Congress does.”
