Icy roads
are trap
for drivers
What started as several inches of quiet snow on Sunday morning turned into more than an inch of noisy sleet as the day wore on. Highway crews worked all day to keep the county’s paved roads passable and by Sunday evening the roads were mostly cleared of ice and snow.
Then the temperature dropped early Monday morning and turned shaded sections of roadway into ice covered traps.
At 5:30 a.m. Aubrey Frye, 34, of Woodville found a patch of ice on U.S. 522 near Fletcher’s Mill while headed towards Sperryville. She lost control of her 1988 Ford Bronco and slid off the right side of the road. The vehicle suffered minor damage but she was not hurt, according to a report filed by trooper S.M. Knick.
