The Rappahannock County Sheriffs Department is actively looking for Charles C. Boykin, 30, of Manassas following an incident early Saturday morning.
According to Sheriff John Henry Woodward, Deputy Connie Compton \fras returning to Washington from Amissville about 2:50 a.m. when she saw an unknown vehicle turn into a driveway off U.S. 211 near Mayhugh’s Store. (‘She knew the family at that house and did not recognize the car,“ he explained.)
She pulled in behind the vehicle and the driver told her he was having mechanical trouble and asked for a ride to the Sheriffs Office, Sheriff Woodward said.
Describing the incident from the deputy’s report, Woodward said that she explained department policy requires a pat down search before letting anyone into the car. That search turned up a beeper and $1,780 in cash but Boykin refused to provide any identification, Deputy Compton reported she smelled a strong odor of marijuana on the man and asked for permission to serch his car. That request was denied. Deputy Compton then placed him under arrest on a charge of no operator’s license. At that point he fled into the dark, Sheriff Woodward said.
The car was impounded and a warrant obtained for a serch, which turned up a wallet, a .38 caliber twoshot derringer, and a bottle containing a white powder.
The wallet contained identification and allowed the department to learn that Boykin is wanted throughout the area. Prince William County has charged him with parole violation following a robbery conviction.
