These two deer

left uncounted

To the Editor:

Regarding your recent article about the number of deer killed in Rappahannock County, there are two deer in Gid Brown Hillow^ that didn’t get counted: The deer are hungry They’re eating the leaves off the rhododendrums Next to the house The dog sniffs at the plants Walk to the river The water tumbles over the rocks Happy water The dog splashes into it Chasing a stick Follow the old rock wall Through the woods Moss at the base of the tree The only green The birds are quiet The dog runs She smells the deer Before she sees them There are two Lying next to the rock wall One is stretched on its back Like the dog when she wants Her stomach rubbed The other is on its side Both butchered It smells bad here And the view is ugly A Lite beer can With a bullet through it The men are hungry.
