'•* i' The Rappahannock Library’s First Friday Series will present “Rappahannock Birds: Studies and Migrations” at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 5. The speaker will be local resident Betsy Trent Thomas, a recent research associate of The Smithsonian Istitution and a student of bird behavior for many years. • Mrs. Thomas has an on-going project in Venezuela where she lived and did bird research for 20 years. Breed on this work, she has published over 25 scientific papers, and ,1nt October of 1992 was keynote speaker at the Second Brazilian Ornithological Congress at the invita° ;t»on of the Brazilian government. • -Upon moving to Rappahannock County in 1987, Mrs. Thomas began studies of local birds. Navy Seaman Mark R. Butler, ;son of Douglas M. and Winifred P. Butler of Sperryville, is currently deployed aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Guam.
The ship is homeported in Norfolk, and midway through a sixmonth deployment to the Mediterranean Sea. • .sr" * He is a 1989 graduate of Rappahannock County High School.
