For all the grimness of life in Russia two artists found inspiration for their work there.
American painter Robin Purnell and Russian poet Maryanne Ozemoy told of their experiences at Ki Theatre’s second exchange program Sunday night.
Mrs. Purnell said she still has paintings in her head she wants to do that are based on her experiences in Russia. She showed slides of her work. The women of Russia, struggling to survive and overcome the conditions of their lives were a recurring theme in the paintings. Many show the influence of Russian Orthodox icons.
Mrs. Ozernoy read some of her poems. She read one of Russian and English. She said she does her own translations now. She said the period of her life during which she was a refusnik, trying to get permission
