The budget adopted by the Water and Sewer Authority last Thursday for operating the Sperryville sewer plant will require a monthly rate of $21.50 per Equivalent Dwelling Unit (EDU).
This represents a $6 or 39 percent increase over the current rate of$15.50per EDU.
The total budget of nearly $73,100 is up 44 percent over the current budget of $50,900, but the authority has not been able to live within that budget.
The authority has spent nearly $61,800 this year through April with two months yet to go on the fiscal year. In addition the authority paid a $4,000 fine to the State Water Control Board for violations at the plant last spring and summer. As a result the savings account accumulated to help pay for replacing equipment as it wears out has been reduced to less than $39,100 from a ballance of over $61,600 in the beginning of July.
