Finally Opens

Love it or hate it, two more miles of four-lane highway opened in Rappahannock County last week.
The section opened is the two east-bound lanes of U.S. 211, between the Covington River at Rediviva and the already completed highway at the Washington bypass.
Still to be completed is the western section of the construction on U.S. 211 from the Covington River to the Thornton River just outside of Sperryville.
The entire stetch of four-lane road, from the Washington bypass to the outskirts of Sperryville, is slated for completion by August.
County residents have mixed feelings about the highway. Some think the county already has too marty miles of four-lane road. Others applaud the improvement in transportation.
After the most recent four-lane section was was opened, highway workers began repaving the present, west-bound lanes. This will not require routing traffic to the new stretch. Instead, one lane at a time of the westbound road will be closed for paving until the overlay is complete.
