proposed budget from a total of $18,300 to $32,600. The other category that increased sharply is plant supplies from $12,000 to $17,000. The cost of tablets for the dechlorinator accounts for most of the increase in supplies, and authority members said the increased complexity of operating a plant with dechlorination accounted for the cost of having to go from a part-time to a full-time operator.

A few costs of operation will be lower next year. With plant operator Donna Chabot able to do more of the chemical tests at the plant, the cost for lab tests was reduced in the proposed budget from $2,000 to $500. Also the authority will no longer be paying to have samples shipped for testing, saving $150 in that category.

Member Jimmy Swindler Jr. warned, however, that new’ SWCB rules in coming years may require the plant to remove amonia as well as chlorine from the water discharged into the Thornton River.
