The WSA must hold a public hearing on the rate increase before it can take effect.
The proposed budget includes $6,000 in capital expenses for the coming year. Members hope this will cover the cost of modifications at the plant to control surges and readying an extra tank to treat septage so the authority will not have to pay to have the contents of tanks on the system pumped and taken to the Remington sewage treatment plant. The budget does not cover all of that cost. Recovering the cost of the capital expense will be spread out over at least two years before the savings account can begin building again.
Member Mark Bailey missed the meeting last week. The other four members were unanimous in recommending the $21.50 rate.
Members also decided to send a letter to customers explaining the reasons for the rate increase.
