All people who use our roads pay for the construction and maintenance of the same. The taxes we pay to maintain the roads usually come in the form of higher gasoline prices, but we also pay general road taxes.
The significant fact in this case is that the people who benefit most from the existence of the highway system; i.e. the trucking industry does not pay taxes which equal the benefits which they, the truckers gain from the highway system. In fact the average family is subsidizing the trucking industry by the road taxes which we pay.
Education is a public good. The benefits of education do not accrue solely to a student, nor to the student’s family. Rather, the benefits of good education spill over into the community at-large.
Well-educated citizens were the foundation of our county, and the hope of our founding fathers. As a member of a democratic society I depend on the knowledge and thinking of my fellow citizens to debate, consider, and make the best choices possible for my county and country.
By the same token I do not bear the entire financial burden of paying for the education of the children of the county. As my parents and grandparents did before me, I pay something to the state for the provision of education to members of our community, and I will continued to pay for the school system after my
