Sid Gottlieb asked Mr. Kumli if he owned property nearby. Mr. Kumli said he did not, but his friend William Remington lived next door to the property.
Mr. Remington said he opposed granting the special use permit, but he would prefer to put his objections in writing instead of speaking at the hearing.
Mike Massie, who represents the Board of Supervisors on the Planning Commission, was chairing the meeting since Chairman Allen Stokes and vice-chairman David Fannon were absent.
Mr. Massie said granting special use permits or permits for special exceptions was not “an exception to the zoning ordinance.” He noted that the language “special use permit” and “special exception” was required by state law. “Otherwise they would have all these uses by right and wouldn’t have to come here and apply,” he said.
