The Washington Town Council last week scheduled a public hearing on the proposed zoning ordinance, and plans to meet next month in the town hall.
During the 50-minute meeting the council alsp discussed guidelines for public use of the town hall, deferred voting on nominations to the Planning Commission because several council members were absent, and listened to several reports. Mrs. Susan Parrish presided over the meeting in the absence of Mayor Dean Morehouse.
After reviewing recommendations of the Planning Commission, which voted to adopt the Zoning Ordinance after a hearing last month, the council scheduled a final public hearing September 10 on the Zoning Ordinance as amended. The suggested changes in the ordinance correct a typographical error and permit the keeping of three dogs per dwelling unit, and up to six dogs in a kennel.
The council voted to begin holding meetings in the town hall. The building, at the corner of Gay and Calvert streets, is the former Rappahannock County Library. Funds have already been appropriated for chairs for council members, and the meeting table is under construction.
