Cohen said local news coverage is the strength of broadcasting, setting it apart from larger metropolitan operations. While larger stations in New Jersey provided metro news from urban centers such as New York City and Philadelphia, his station in New Jersey won its audience by cqncentrating on news coverage of the small communities around the state.
He plans a similar avenue of attack here in Warrenton by eventually hiring correspondents to cover local news.
The station also plans to expand its community service promotions. Right now the station is raising funds to help the folks hit by flooding in the Midwest.
It may take six to 12 months, according to Cohen, before the changes make a dent in the station’s lackluster advertising revenue. “We didn’t lose ground overnight, so the turn around won’t ?ome overnight either,” he said.
But, the turn around will come, he says. Big K’s huge library of classic country hits and its intensely loyal following help make it a very promising operation.
“This station has all the makings of a great station,” Cohen said.
