“The World of Quilting,” and invitational exhibition of 36 paintings, pastels and drawing will be presented at Belle Grove Plantation, Middletown, from Saturday Sept. 4 through Sunday, Sept. 19. The theme of the exhibition was chosen to reflect Belle Grove’s continuing celebration of the 1993 Year of American Craft. The artists invited to participate in the exhibition will present works in realistic, impressionistic and abstract styles.
Exhibition entries juried by Linda Crocker Simmons, Associate Curator of the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. They will be judged by Bettye Chumley, owner of the Shenandoah Fine Arts Gallery in Winchester. Cash prizes of $500 for first place, $300 for second place and $200 for third place will be awarded.
In addition to the works of artists from the Northern Shenandoah Valley, paintings from Richmond, Alexandria, Arlington and Waynesboro, Virginia as well as from Chevy Chase and Catonsville, Maryland, will hang in 18th century museum rooms of Belle Grove.
