Slowik-will present an evening of solo and duo pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach and Ludwig van Beethoven. Both performers are internationally renowned for their performances on period instruments.
The music of Leonard Bernstein will be highlighted when the Smithsonian American Song Company presents a special tribute to Leonard Bernstein marking the composer’s 75th birthday at 8 p.m on Saturday, March 21.
The final concert in the series at 8 ,p.m., Saturday May 21, features all three members of the Castle Trio along with guest artists-flutist Christopher Krueger and violist Jane Starkman-in a program of chamber music by Ludwig van Beethoven and Franz Schubert. The program will include Beethoven’s Serenade in D Major, Op. 25, as well as Schubert’s one-movement “Nottumo,” D.897 and the ever-popular “Trout” Quintet.
To provide audiences with a better understanding of the material presented in each of the performances, the concerts will be preceded by a lecture led by one of the performers or a member of the Smithsonian’s staff.
The subscription price for all four performances is $50. Remaining tickets for individual concerts, subject to availability, are $13.50 for advance reservations and $15 at the door.
