To the Editor:
I am writing in response to Mr. Goolrick’s syndicated column ap' pearing in the Aug. 11th issue of your paper. It seems that Mr. Goolrick has been blasting with “both barrels” so long he has become hard of hearing, or is it that the material is so dated?
While it is true that at the convention Mrs. Kilberg was booed, her supporters were not “run roughshod over” by Farris nominating speech said, “We need Bobbi on the ticket bacause women vote for women.” This got her soundly booed for insluting the intelligence of the audience. This statement goes hand in hand with “whites vote for whites” or “blacks for blacks,” etc. She was simply out of place. Mrs. Kilberg broke “faith” with the delegated with open display of hostility toward our party’s nominee. Yet It wonder how the conservatives woulld react to someone like Bobbi Kilberg on the ticket, porbably react to someone like Bobbi Kilberg on the ticket, probably sulky but no hostile.
Playing partisan politics is like watching a yo-yo go up and down. We find it exciting and repulisive at times. Playing in the party helps put in place the candidates which we will vote on in the general election come each November. There is always someone who becomes dissatisfied with the outcome. I have been there myself, but I take the Jefferson rule of thought of “peaceably going along with the majority until we can make a change from within. ” J
This though caused me to become active in the Republican party that pledges to limit government, taxation and spending with adherence to old-time American morals stemming from Judeo-Christian teachings. These principles brought us some of the most beloved presidents and governors of this century, while the Democrat party’s lack of moral background has brought us the Clintons with their plans for a gay military. While niether party is perfect or has all the right answers, the solutions must come from the private sector, not the government. This is where you Republic Party stands, and the Allen/Farris/Gilmore ticket is a standard-bearer. The Republican ticket is closer to the Virginia mainstream
