seums. Mrs. Spilman has exhibited at the American Watercolor Society’s International Show in New York City. A third artists selected to show’ at Belle Grove is 12 year old Court Pifer w’hose watercolor, “Papa’s Quilt,” is his first work accepted for an exhibition.

The paintings will be complemented by quilts and quilted wrall hangings. These items were also juried for entry into the exhibition.

“The World of Quilting” will open with a preview on Thursday, Sept. 2. Mrs Alson H. Smith, Honorary Chair of the exhibition’s Sponsoring Committee and former Chair of the Virginia Commission for the Arts, will welcome guests to the preview and present exhibition awards with Mrs. Chumley. The Will Taylor Jazz Quartet of Austin, Texas will perform during the preview'. Those wishing to receive an invitiation to the Exhibition Preview' should call the Belle Grove office at 869-2028.

Belle Grove Plantation is a property of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The museum is located one mile s6uth of Middletown, off U.S. 11 and convenient to the intersections of I 66 and 81. Hours of “The World of Quilting” are 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 143 p.m. on Sundays.
