Auction Items Sought
The Washington Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department is accepting items for their upcoming auction on Oct. 9. The auction will benefit the fire department. Items can be donated by calling 675-3615 or 675-3844 for pickup by fire department members.
Support Group To Meet

Aritists At Trading Post
The Trading Post invites you to welcome Merlin Little Thunder and Merle Big Medicine from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 21 and 22.
Merlin’s paintings convey a cultural message with many of his subjects coming from stories told to him by his grandmother. He works in acrylic, pencil and chalk, and frames and mats his pieces himself. Merlin believes the finishing touches are just as important as the images he elaborates on canvas. This belief is reflected in his finished product.
Merlin will be demonstrating the elaborate beadwork of the Cheyenne. She beads everything from earrings to necklaces to pens. Merle will also have leatherwork, such as moccasins and pouches, handmade by her and members of her family.
Eve Hill and her family will be preparing and selling Native American Foods. The Trading Post is located on U.S. 211, west of Washington.
Library Series Continues
Friday Library lecture series presents Lecture and Video Presentation pertaining to the Battle of New Market and the role played by The Virginia Military Institute in the Civil War at 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 10 at Rappahannock Library on U.S. 211. The programs is free to all and refreshments will follow the open discussion.
Quillo Raffle
A Quillo raffle to benefit the Promise Land Baptist Church Flower Club will be held at 5 p.m. on Aug. 28 at the home of Wilbur and Edith Bridget. Call for directions 987-9214.
First prize will be the homemade Quillo, second prize, homemade pound cake and the third prize will be a homemade fruit pie. Cake and ice cream will be served.
English Class Offered
Lord Fairfax Community College will be offering an College Composition II English class this fall at Rappahannock County High School. The three credit class will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 24. Those interested in taking the class may register at Lord Fairfax or on the first night of class. Tennis Tournament

A car wash to benefit The Children Care and Learning Center will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 23 at the center. Proceeds will benefit the field trip fund of CCLC.
