The School Board offered the high school assistant principal’s position to Kurt R. Harrup following an interview Tuesday night.
Mr. Harrup lives in Luray and formerly worked for the Page County school system. He received an advanced degree in administration from Virginia Tech in 1991. He also received a masters in guidance in 1974 and a bachelors degree in drama from Lynchburg College in 1968. He has worked in administration in Page, Giles and Greenville counties.
Mr. Harrup will replace assistant principal Larry Carter who will be leaving to become principal of Madison County High School.
The School Board also voted to proceed with a design for the elementary school addition. The proposed design is for a 14-classroom extension to be added on to the gym end of the current school building. The addition will also include an office, bathrooms and a mechanical room as well as an addition to the cafeteria.
Architects from the VMDO firm in Charlottesville presented two plans for the board to choose from. The other plan showed the 14 classrooms surrounding a courtyard. This plan would have cost about $143,500 more. With sitework, including a new service road, storm drainage and sewer
