A farmer tells Jay that his small beef processing business was halted, while OSHA and EPA regulators-without agricultural background-argued over differing new requirements for an operation that had been working just fine. Who paid for the delay? He did; and we will!
Certainly there are abuses of common sense precautions by both individuals and business. In this imperfect world, it will never be different. But we need to balance the costs against the benefits. If we do not, we will chase businesses to friendlier places, inside our country and abroad.
Where would that leave us? Bureaucrats won’t produce the food, services and clothing we need. The Mexicans or Asians will, at a cost to us of jobs, dollars, and a healthy economy.
Thank heaven Jay Katzen sees the need for balance and common sense in our swelling governmental regulatory burdens. Vote for Jay Katzen on Nov. 2!

To the Editor:
Mr. Darby’s letter that appeared in your paper on Oct. 6 is flat wrong.
I am NOT for the termination of land use. I never have been, and have never made that statement.
I am for land use. I’ve said so many times and in many circumstances. I have said that IF there are abuses in the system, let’s take a look at it to see if we can made it better.
I am for land use. I can’t make it any clearer than that.
