“The game was closer than the final score,” Coach Leake said. “We dug a big hole in the first half.” He noted that the Rappahannock squad actually outsocred Brentsville in the second half, but came up short. The score at the end of the half was 31 for Brentsville to 16 for Rappahannock. The Panthers scored 26 points in the second half, including 18 in the final quarter.
“Our problem was a poor shootng percentage the first half,” he said. “We were getting the opportunities but not consistent scoring.” -,eah Marlett led the team with 13 joints. Bonnie and Susan Jewell had six points each.
Thursday night against Central he varsity lost 78 to 38. “Basically he game was even for the first four minutes of the first quarter,” Coach Leake said. Central came out with a 'ull-court press, he said, and the seam handled it well at the beginning of the game. “We broke the press and either scored or had a high percentage shot,” he said. Then for the next four minutes the team lost momentum, allowing Central to score 16 unanswered points. The team was plagued by turnovers, he said, with 27 by halftime.
Down 41 to 17 and the end of the half, the Rappahannock squad played better ball in the second half, with only 12 turnovers. Leah led the team with 22 points, 14 rebounds and four blocked shots.
