“Come celebrate our country’s 218th birthday all day in the Town of Washington with a great variety of activities and with a fantastic display of aerial fireworks in the evening,” William Carrigan said.
For over 30 years Mr. Carrigan and his late wife extended cordial invitations to all the folks of Rappahannock County to come picnic with families on the hills around Avon Lake on the Fourth of July and experience patriotic songs, children’s foot races, and super fireworks.
A few years ago Mr. Carrigan gave up providing the fireworks, and the Town of Washington assumed responsibility for them. The Washington Volunteer Fire Department is providing entertainment throughout the afternoon and evening, but Mr. Carrigan’s Avon Hall continues as the center of evening activities.
Mr. Carrigan wants everyone in Rappahannock to know they are welcome to come again, bring their own picnic or purchase a chicken or pork barbecue dinner from the Fire Department and epjoy the evening entertainment culminating with fireworks.
