John Emerson Tharp, 56, of Oak Park died Saturday, June 25 at his residence.
He was born June 2, 1938, in Castleton, the son of the late Elijah “Pete” and Alice Mae Smith Tharp.
Mr. Tharp was a retired supervisor for Fairfax County.
He was a member of the Shiloh Free Will Baptist Church in Criglersville.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Graves Tharp of Oak Park; one son, Mark Wayne Tharp of Madison; one step-son, Garry Dickey of Madison; one daughter, Debra Lynn Tharp of Remington; three step-daughters, Katrinka Dickey, Michelle Dickey and Elizabeth Dickey, all of Madison.
Also surviving are five brothers, Tom Tharp of Edinsburg, Jake Tharp and Harvey Tharp, both of Culpeper, Wood Tharp and James Tharp, both of Castleton; four sisters, Rosie Wharton and Gladys Williams, both of Culpeper, Mary Tharp of Castleton and Frances Homer of Rhoadesville; two grandchildren, Amanda Tharp and Brandon Tharp, both of Madison.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 28 at Freddy Funeral Chapel in Orange.
Interment was in Forest Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with the Pastor Harold Pickeral and Pastor Lester Horton officiating.
James Pullen
James Calvin Pullen, 64, of Sarasota, Fla., formerly of Front Royal, died Sunday, June 2 in the Bay Pines Veterans Hospital in St. Petersburg, Fla.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 3 in the Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Pullen was bom June 14, 1930, in Rappahannock County, son of the late James Elmer and Alma Dulin Pullen Wines.
He was the owner-operator of Caledonia’s Restaurant in Front Royal. He was a member of the America Legion Giles B. Cook Post 53, V.F.W. Post 1860 and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge . 829.
He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict.
