the Tax debate going on in the United States for the last lot of years is to get someone else to pay through taxes for the services that you want. It almost amounts to legal robbery.
That is a very strong way to view the cry to eliminate “land use” taxes, but look at my situation. If I was unable to take advantage of having my land in “land use,” my 1993 tax bill would have gone from $1,728 to $5,705. And for that $3,977, would I have gotten a nickel’s worth more in county services? No! I would be a lot of money ahead if I could be billed directly for only those few services that I use or am allowed to use. And would I be allowed to vote for my district supervisor so I would have some say in how my money was spent? No.
Folks, I cannot afford that kind of tax rate, and I know that many of the farmers in the couty cannot either!
So, ask yourself if you want to keep the county as it is for as long as possible, or do you want to be
