There is no charge for the entertainment, although there is a charge for parking to benefit RAWL, RAAC, and the Fire Department. Beverly Atkins is in charge of getting volunteers to help with parking during the day On two-hour shifts to raise money for these causes. Anyone willing to volunteer should call her at 675-3843.
Activities get underway Monday morning at 10 a.m. when the craft and food sales begin in town and the Book Sale begins at the library.
At noon a patriotic program begins on the Courthouse steps. There will be a sing-along and readings. “Following the old American tradition of mixing politics with pleasure, we are planning to have several politicians speak on the Fourth of July,” spokesman Ellen Manson said.
Former Sen. Eugene McCarthy will be speaking on Senate elections generally and the upcoming Senate election in Virginia in particilar. Expect the usual McCarthy wit mixed with serious reflection on problems facing the nation and U.S. Senate.
