How fortunate we are to live in the United States of America, and how much we owe to those who fought to achieve our independence and to preserve it!
Normally we would add we are also extremely fortunate to live in Virginia, but this summer’s heat, the U.S. Senate campaign, and the ongoing battle over Disney’s America make us somewhat reluctant to make that statement.
However, there is no doubt that we remain very fortunate to live in Rappahannock County. There is no more beautiful county in the state or nation, and there is none with finer people. ,
As we need to remain vigilant to preserve our freedoms, we also must remain vigilant to preserve the county’s beauty.
The upcoming celebration of the Fourth of July in Washington is an example of how fine the county’s people are. This event would not be possible without hours of volunteer labor and generous financial contributions from individuals i and businesses. Of course the finale would not be possible without the willingness of William Carrigan over the years to host the fireworks.
The existence and ongoing operation of the county library, Child Care and Learning Center, youth sports programs, scout and 4-H programs, fire and rescue squads, and artistic and church activities also depend on the spirit of volunteerism so evident in Rappahannock County, t.
Let’s celebrate all of that Monday.
