To Make Cherry Bounce
Gather good ripe cherries and mash and squeeze the juice from them. Boil the juice a half hour taking off the scum as it rises. Sweeten to your taste while on the fire. When cool, flavor it with old mountain whiskey.
The middle room is set up as a classroom, circa 1900. Miss Jenkins purchased the desks for 50 cents each from the county in 1960. Each desk is set up with an inkwell, chalk, slate and school books. Old photographs from schools now obsolete, including Rabbit Gum in Washington, the first school in the town of Washington, decorate the walls. The teacher’s bell sits quiet on the teacher’s desk.
