We will soon celebrate our nation’s independence. We fought to be free of British rule primarily because of taxes. We said we should not be taxed without having representation on the body imposing the taxes. We won, are independent, and no longer suffer taxation without representation—or so many think and the politicians would have us believe. Wrong!
I have paid real estate taxes to Rappahannock County since 1968 when I first bought land in the county. And since 1986, when I bought an adjoining property, I have paid $12,497 ifi taxes. Yet I am forbidden from voting in the county for the supervisor of my district. Am I not being taxed without representation?
