over facial expressions and body language was by itself worth the price of admission. But the final portion of the play was the most poignant. Her exploration of her relationship with her schizophrenic sister graphically revealed both the confusion and the Hashes of insight associated with this mental illness, as I can affirm from my own experience with a schizophrenic son. The episode, and the play, managed plausibly to end on a note of hope, and the useful notion that life is, after all, mostly a succession of beginnings.
“Mr. Sister’s Sister” is the third part of a trilogy ; the earlier works are biographical sketches of her parents. This final third of the trilogy is the strongest of the lot. It covers a great deal of ground in ways that are both entertaining and suggestive; but it is most successful when it probes the bafflement and the anguish many of us have experienced with loved ones Who live “on the other side of the looking glass.”
The audience gave “My Sister’s Sister” a standing ovation, and they weren’t just being polite.
“My Sister’s Sister” will officially open on Wednesday, April 19 at the Gunston Arts Center in Arlington as part of the Innovator’s Festival, thereafter, it will be added to Ki Theatre’s regular touring repertoire.
