Mr. McCarthy said that would mean less space for extension.
The supervisors will again consider the budget when they meet at 7 p.m. Monday April 24 for a public hearing on the school budget. The hearing will be in the RCHS auditorium.
The supervisors learned the Fire and Rescue Association may ask for additional funds from the county for operating expenses.
Frank Fluff, chief of the Flint Hill Volunteer Fire Department said all the volunteer departments are having trouble raising funds. He said the same small group of volunteers have to take hours of training run calls and participate in fund-raisers.
He suggested the county could adopt a fire tax in addition to the real estate tax.
Mr. McCarthy said that one of the surrounding counties, Fauquier, has adopted a fire tax. He said he did not know how much such a tax would raise. One cent on the real estate tax rate raises about S55,000, he said, but a fire tax uses full-market value for land, not land-use value.
Mr. Huff said the association would be meeting later this month to come up with a proposal.
