The three so honored were Catherine Ann Bower of Culpeper County High School, Mary Christine Goodall of Madison County High School and Veronica Myers of Rappahannock County High School. After receiving her award, each one told a bit about her activities and of her hoped-for plans for the future.
Mi£. Michael Garrett, Chairmen of the American History Essay Contest Committee, gave the topic the students were to use for the essay — “Living in America in Colonial Time from 1607 to 1776"
Each student received a certificate ot achievement and a pin plus a book.
The three winners were: 5th grade — Crystal Beach of Floyd T. Binns School in Culpeper; 6th grade — Ann Franklin of Wakefield Country Day School in Huntly who was unable to attend; 7th grade — Kathryn May of Rappahannock County Elementary School, Crystal and Kathryn each read their award-winning essay.
There were 55 participants in this contest in the three counties.
