said. He said among the school system's strong points are the teachers. “We have some excellent teachers; they’ve shown they have a desire to improve." He cited “a lack of adequate communication” as a problem in the system.
“If I become a School Board member, J plan to communicate and be a good listener,” he said. “I will make decisions to be the greatest benefit to the school system, whatever they may be at any given time.”
He said he feels an elected School Board will be closer to the people than an appointed one. “With an elected School Board, you have to answer to your constituents,” he said. “W'ith an appointed School Board, if the voters are disappointed, they had to go after the supervisor who made the appointment. That isn’t likely to happen.”
He said he feels he will be able to ask questions as an elected member. “If you’re looking for answers, it is because people are looking for answers, and if you don’t give them these answers, they’re going to wonder why they elected you.”
He said that a lot of his students are excited about his decision to run for a seat. “I’ll be serving Piedmont District, but I’ll be working for all the people in the county to made a good school system. I’ve learned how easy it is to be a critic. When you’re in a position to make a decision, you’re going to be criticized. Most of the people who don’t have to make these decisions, aren’t privy to the information about the circumstances that make it difficult.”
He concluded, “1 won’t just be a ‘yes’ man.”
