The supervisors learned a location on Adelphia Cablevision’s tower in Chester Gap will not be suitable for the dispatch center at the sheriff's office. Mr. McCarthy said an analysis showed it would be worse than the current location behind the jail. It would provide good reception for much of the county, but the western part of the county, including Sperryville, could not be reached, he said.

Mr. McCarthy said Cellular One had signed an agreement to use that tower, and another cellular phone service Shenandoah Cellular has approached the county about a joint agreement.

The supervisors said they hoped the new company would find a location at the Farmers’ Co-op acceptable.

Mr. McCarthy said that Governor Allen’s proposal to return some lottery proceeds to the localities will not do Rappahannock much good. He said the amount the county would receive is insignificant, and other services would be cut.

At the evening session the supervisors unanimously voted to oppose another budget amendment the governor is proposing for the veto session.
