pitching in the fifth inning Page got two more runs tying the score, he said. Then in the sixth inning the Panthers got another run and led 9 to 8, but Page came back in the bottom of the inning and scored two more runs. With Page ahead 10 to 9 the game was .called because of darkness, he said.
“I’m extremely happy with the way they performed. There were not as many mistakes and a lot more intensity. We still need to work on base running and playing good defense, but overall it was a positive experience,” Coach Gochenour said.
James Eastham led the batting with three hits. Jason Brown and Jon Digges got two each.
“We played much better defense. We didn’t make the mental errors. We did the basic things right. They threw to the right bases, made the outfield catches and infield plays they should have made in the first two games,” he said.
Of the softball game Coach Carl Payne reported. “We didn’t get a hit....They’re not overpowering, but they play fundamental ball.” Page won 15 to 0.
He said Page got five or six hits, but scored more as a fesult of walks and fielding errors. “We didn't play good ball on defense, or offense,” he said.
The teams were to meet Manassas Park in away games Wednesday and return home to face Clarke County Friday.
The track team did not have any meets the past week, but was scheduled to participate in a meet in Clarke County on Wednesday and will be at Stonewall Jackson next Wednesday.
