“The team played very well. Warren County is a good team too. I was really impressed by the performance,” said Coach Uli Maeyer.
On a soccer field which Coach Maeyer calls worse than the RCHS soccer field, the game against Madison County last Tuesday ended with a 1-1 tie. Coach Maeyer feels his team should have won that game 5-0, but with the conditions of the field, it was difficult to set up plays, and it is not fair to have anyone play on a field with such a high risk of injury, he said. Mike Switzer suffered a sprained ankle. “No one should be allowed to play on that field,” said Coach Maeyer.
RCHS outplayed their team, he said. “We had 36 chances, and they had eight,” he said. Mike Letsen scored the one goal in the first half. In the last 20 seconds of the game, Madison County scored their first goal, tying the score. After playing overtime, the score remained at T-1.
The team will host Madison Friday.
It appears the Rappahannock baseball and softball teams are on a see-saw. Last week the baseball team picked up another loss to Page, but it was the team’s best outing yet. Meanwhile the softball learn got blown out.
Baseball Coach Jason Gochenour said the team “played very well.”
At the end of three innings the Panther squad was ahead 8 to 3. Willie Eastham pitched three good innings, but in the fourth inning “the wheels fell off,” he said. Page managed to score three more runs in the top of the fourth. With Jon Digges
