Thirteen people spoke in favor of the proposed school budget for next year at the Board of Supervisors’s Monday night public hearing. One opposed such an increase in local taxes, and one was ambivalent.
School Superintendent David Gangel noted that many items scheduled to increase are required by law or by agreements w ith other agencies. Of the $431,600 in additional funds requested from the county, $80,164 is required for special education, another $51,161 is required by other laws (mainly the requirement that textbooks be furnished free), and $4,386 is required because of agreements with the county for sewer service and
