The committee looking into block scheduling at the high school for the 1996-97 school year has plenty of company.
Committees in Culpeper, Page and Fauquier counties are also exploring options for instituting block schedules at their high schools for the year after next.
In the meantime high schools in Madison and Warren counties have moved ahead and instituted block schedules during the current school year.
At a faculty in-service earlier this month representatives from those two schools talked about their new schedules and how the education they offer has been affected.
Former RCHS assistant principal Larry Carter became principal of Madison County High School in the fall of 1994. His school started a semester block schedule this year. Students completed four classes the first semester and started with four {ieW ones this semester. ’! Mr. Carter said one mistake they ntade was not increasing graduation requirements when the schedule was Changed, and Madison will gradually phase in more credit requirements. *' His teachers said they were finding teaching more rewarding than fever before but also reported they Were working harder than ever.
