A total of 444 acres received approval to be tagged onto the Jenkins Mountain Agricultural and Forestal District for four years. The majority, 394 acres, belongs to Dr. Monira Rifaat and 50 acres to Brenda Van Ness.
Mr. McCarthy said that he had been in touch with the USGS regarding water quality and water quantity mapping for the county. He said, “At this early stage of review we have to define what we want. We need to get a handle on our ground water quantity.”
One thing the study will show is how open the county is to development, he said. “What we will get is another tool to use to restrict development.”
He said using a private consultant would probably cost in the range of $100,000, but the USGS would cost a lot less. He suggested that he have two representatives of USGS come to a future meeting, maybe a Board of Supervisors meeting, to discuss the study. All agreed to that.
During public comment at the end of the meeting, Woodville resident Melinda Alexander said that she feels it is very important to define villages and protect the county’s growth. Dr. Krebser said that they had defined villages, but “it is fuzzy around the edges.”
