For the second year in a row, Paul Loebach finished first overall in the Fodderstack 10K race. In last Saturday’s event he won with a time of 35:59.
Approximately 190 runners ran through the beautiful Rappahannock countryside, enjoying the dogwoods and redbud trees at their peak. Though the weather cooperated with a beautiful sunny and warm day, the head wind was a problem for the runners throughout the entire course. No records were broken, and times were usually not as fast as last year’s. Mr. Loebach’s winning time last year was 33:52. He is married to the daughter of Mrs. Lester Shaw of Amissville.
Finishing second for the men was Greg Langer at 38:10; John O’Neill was third at 38:31.
Holly Gangel and Mark Jenkins, both students at RCHS and members of the track team, captured the Eva Smith Memorial awards by being the first county residents to finish the race.
Mark also received the Fodderstack 10K Classic Special Award, since this was his tenth year running the race. His first was run when he was eight years old, and this was the first time he has won the Eva Smith. This was Holly’s second year in a row winning the coveted award.
In the womens’ competition, Kim Kruse-Langer finished first overall with a time of 43:55. Last year she finished with a faster time of 43:16. Second place overall went to Monika Bachmann at 45:28, and coming in third
