But a woman administrator asked the other school officials to give him another chance to get his act together. Then this woman sat Mr. Baltimore down and said, “I went out on a limb for you. Don’t let me down — you’ve got to work at this.”

The woman found Mr. Baltimore some tutors and set up meetings twice a week to check on him herself.

Mr. Baltimore came to realize that while he had been learning the right moves for playing basketball, he hadn’t been learning the right moves for achieving at school.

“I had problems studying — I didn’t focus when I read and I found it difficult to highlight the important parts and to keep notes on notecards.

“My tutors...stayed on me and made me concentrate on my studies.” He gradually raised his grades.

One year later, Mr. Baltimore transferred to Shenandoah University, where he achieved almost a perfect GPA his final year.

He also found Christianity through a fellow student, Ginger Shelton, who became his wife.

Mr. Baltimore said, in hindsight, that the Lord had a plan for him that he can trace back to his high school
