On Sunday, the Rappahannock County Monarchs rode l.uther Alexander's strong right arm and a rediscovered offensive punch to the finals of the Apple Valley League playoffs.
Rappahannock defeated New Market 17-2 to take the best of three series, two games to one.
Alexander limited New Market to one run and six hits over seven innings while striking out 10 hatters and not allowing a walk. The Monarchs" offense exploded for 16 hits, eight of which went for extra bases. , The Monarchs scored the first run of the game when Bill Atkins led off the first inning with a walk, stole second and third and scored on Reggie Williams' sacrifice fly. Rappahannock got two more runs in the second when Chris Bennett singled, Bob Howard walked and Andy Furr brought them both in with a double.
In the Monarch fifth inning, Atkins singled, stole second and scored on Vincent Avlor's double.
