To the Editor:
The great suffering and losses occasioned by the recent flooding were almost balanced by the outpouring of community spirit and voluntary support from people near and„far from each affected area. It is such a coming together that reinforces one’s faith in human nature.
The Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Services Board, which maintains continuing programs in all the affected areas, responded immediately to the Madison County Department of Social Service’s request for assistance of emergency mental health support of rescue and relief efforts on June 27.
From that date forward, RRCSB provided daily emotional debriefing and support to flood survivors and rescue personnel, technical consultation and coordination with interagency emergency responders, transportation, and outreach efforts via print and radio.
Now, in addition to its traditional emergency services and as a public service, Family Guidance Services of RRCSB is offering up to three free counseling sessions to people affected by the floods in Madison, Culpeper, Rappahannock and Orange.
