Another computer lab will be established for fifth graders and used primarily for math.
A third computer classroom will serve sixth and seventh grades. The computers in the current fifth and sixth-grade math lab will be replaced, since they are out of date. Sixth grade will use the new computers for math, and seventh grades may use them for science, for example, Mr. Smith said.
He said there are good programs that enable students who are not comfortable doing dissections for biology to do them on a computer.
He said the fourth grade classes will be taught by the same teacher all day instead of having teachers specialize in one subject area. The fifth grades will be divided with two teams of two teachers each with each team responsible for two sections of fifth grade.
Only sixth and seventh grades will be departmentalized, he said.
“As we get more specialized, we tend to specialize by issue,” Mrs. Tupper said. “We’re trying to specialize by child or person, not subject area or issue.”
