Mr. McNear said, “You cannot be exclusionary. In order to have fairly strict regulations in the rural areas you have to make a provision for some growth in the villages and provide some kind of housing mix.” He added that in order to provide anything a central sewer system is needed, and he feels it is appropriate to look at Sperryville to provide some housing.
Mr. Miller agrees that growth should come in and around the villages. He said that there is going to be a new road of some kind around Sperryville, and that road will most likely go over his land. He and Mr. McNear have been working on a twolane road design that would enter the Miller property on the west side of U.S. 522 near the east end of the Sperryville cemetery, and eventually pass the sewage treatment plant and end out on U.S. 21 1 east of the Emporium. We are interested in having a say in when and how the road goes,” said Mr. Miller.
A preliminary plan drawn up by Mr. Near shows an area for single family housing with nearby sports facilities, possibly soccer fields and baseball fields, a community center, and a 100-foot wide park. Houses would be in keeping design-wise with the present Sperryville houses, which
