Two young women hikers were found dead in their tent with their throats cut at a campsite near Skyland in Shenandoah National Park last Saturday night.
According to Robbie Brockwehl with the Shenandoah National Park public information office, the bodies were identified as Julie Williams, 24, and Lollie Winans, 26, Both lived and worked in Vermont.
Ms. Williams’s father called the park last Friday, concerned that he had not heard from his daughter. She and Ms. Winans were doing a long circuit hike throughout the Central area of the park over the Memorial Day weekend and were due to'Ieave the Park on Monday, May 27, to return to New England. Park rangers found the bodies about 8:30 p.m. at a campsite off of a horse trail within 1/2 mile of Skyland Lodge.
