About 15 people showed up for the public hearing on the county budget Monday night, but none of them wanted to say anything.
After a while Chairman Hubert Gilkey closed the hearing.
Hampton District representative Mike Massie asked for a show of hands of those favoring the budget and those opposing it. About eight raised their hands in support and two in opposition.
In response to a question James Wooten said he just wanted more information on what was causing taxes to increase.
County Administrator John McCarthy said about half th“e increase was for the schools. Required raises for constitutional officers and other county employees account for most of the rest, he said.
