She said the new plans call for evaluating such “competencies as Understanding Self and Others, Exploring Occupations, Making Decisions, Acquiring Work Skills, and Planning for Life.”

She said, this is “dumbing down education with an emphasis on personal attributes.” She said children will be set on certain career paths and not allowed to deviate. For example, Mrs. Breed said a student on a health services career path would not be allowed to take advanced placement physics.

She suggested those in the audience “read applications the school systems make to the federal and state governments to see if they are forced to do these things.”

Local Republican Party Chairman Walter Longyear asked, “How does Goals 2000 work with this?”

Mrs. Bocchino said, “It is part of Schools to Work, nationalizing the system.”

John Marocchi said, “Anyone who thinks this will not amount to anything should remember the first income tax was 1 percent of income over $10,000....We are seeing the revolution in the failed Soviet Union start here.”
