The last time hikers were killed on the Appalachian Trail was six years ago in Pennsylvania.

Park Police, Virginia State Police and the FBI are investigating the homicides. There are no suspects at this time.

Officials from the Park ask anyone who saw two females hiking in the Park with a golden retriever/lab mix named Taj between May 24 and June 1, or anyone who may have any other information that may help the investigation, to call the park toll-free at 1-888-856-2467.

The dog is being held at the Park’s animal shelter. It was found Saturday in the area where the two women’s bodies were found.
