The Republican Party of Virginia faces an unusual problem in this election year in that there are two sensible conservative candidates who seek the party’s nomination at the June 11th primary election for a seat in the United States Senate.
Both have extensive experience in government; both stand for many of the same principles and goals. However, one, Senator John Warner, has much more federal service, both military and civilian, and has been regularly voting to advance those goals and principles as a member of Congress. His record is ‘ much more impressive.
Senator Warner served as a sailor in World War II, a Marine officer in the Korean War, and Secretary of the Navy during the Vietnam War. In Congress, he is a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and the Agriculture Committee. He has served as vice-chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, on the Environment and Public Works Committee and the Senate Rules Committee. Senator Warner has dedicated most of his life to the service of Virginia and the country as a whole. He rightly deserves to be reelected to another, term in the Senate. Let’s see why.
Over the years, Senator Warner has consistently sought to balance the federal budget and reduce the national debt; eliminate wasteful programs; assure a strong national defense; 'secure a fairer tax code and reduce the capital gains tax; toughen sentencing requirements for drug dealers, driveby shooters, and women and child abusers; oppose federal funding1 for abortion; and seek a sensible and affordable health care program.
Senator Warner has sponsored or co-sponsored the following bills:
• the balanced budget amendment,
• the Presidential line-item veto
• estate tax relief for small farms
